The Victorian Collaborative Healthcare Recovery Initiative
The Victorian Collaborative Healthcare Recovery Initiative (VCHRI) is a state-wide collaboration between MACH, Monash Partners and Western Alliance.
The collaboration is working with State Government funding to develop projects that contribute to the redesign and improvement of Victoria’s healthcare system, driving recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic through research-led innovation.
Governance Structure

The Victorian Research Translation Centre Collaborative
Awarding of the Victorian Collaborative Healthcare Recovery Initiative funding required formalised joint governance across the three Translation Centres (MACH, Monash Partners and Western Alliance). This has now been delivered by forming an Executive Committee, independently chaired by Prof Richard Larkins with additional Government representation, to oversee a new Victorian Research Translation Centre Collaborative. This grouping will oversee funding jointly held by the three centres.

Executive Committee Membership
Members of the committee will include the independent chair, the lead of each of the centres, a GP, consumer, a lead DHHS representative and a nominated CEO member rotating across centres. Others may attend meetings where appropriate, with prior notice and as required, and be included in the circulation of information, but will not be members of the Committee.

The VCHRI Project Steering Committee
The NHMRC accredited Victorian translation centres include Monash Partners, Melbourne Academic Centre for Health and Western Alliance which links across rural and regional Victoria. Over 95% of health and medical research occur in these centres and their role is to embed research into healthcare to improve health outcomes. The Centre Alliance has been tasked with contributing to the Victorian healthcare recovery efforts through identifying priorities, supporting research and evidence translation and improving outcomes.

Project Steering Committee Membership
Members of the committee will include two nominated academic leads from each of the centres (chairs of the data and health services research committees), an academic GP, and a consumer. The members will be responsible for overseeing the VCHRI. The committee is chaired by Prof Helena Teede, the Executive Director of Monash Partners.

Project Updates

To support this statewide initiative, MACH has provided funding to the Learning Health System (LHS) pilot projects, led by Professor Wendy Chapman and Professor Harriet Hiscock (MACH Projects 1-4). The aim is to understand where the greatest needs for healthcare reform may be, through two data-driven projects to gather evidence about how healthcare provision has changed during the pandemic; and two projects to explore patient perceptions of telehealth and virtual care.

The MACH office has published the first edition of the MACH LHS newsletter that aims to update the MACH network on a quarterly basis on the progress of the pilot projects.
